If there are questions you know to expect, practise them specifically. Deliver your answer directly to the camera, watch the result, and adjust as necessary for next time.
A: When answering, focus on your relevant skills, experience, and achievements that make you the best fit for the role. You should hire me because I am a hard worker who wants to help your company succeed. I have the skills and experience needed for the job, and I am eager to learn and grow with your team .
The best way to answer "Tell me about yourself" is with a brief highlight-summary of your experience, your education, the value you bring to an employer, and the reason you're looking forward to learning more about this next job and the opportunity to work with them.
I am a hard-working and driven individual who isn't afraid to face a challenge. I'm passionate about my work and I know how to get the job done. I would describe myself as an open and honest person who doesn't believe in misleading other people and tries to be fair in everything I do.
Make sure that you look polished and professional — at least up top. (The beauty of video calls is that nobody will know if you wear sweatpants with your Oxford shirt and tie!) Consider a button-up shirt or blouse, and be sure to groom just as thoughtfully as you would for an in-person meeting.
After all, this is a job interview, so your focus should be on what you can bring to the role and the company as a whole. Mention your skills, work experience, education, and any extracurricular or volunteer activities, especially those that are related to the line of work for which you're applying.
Pause after each question and consider how you'd like to answer it. Listen carefully to all panel members, and take notes of everything that will help you make the best career decision. Ask for clarification when needed. Take your time delivering answers.
Tell them to be confident in their messaging. It's okay not to know: Tell them not to force any answers and that it is okay to say, “I don't know,” or to redirect the conversation to their area of expertise. Follow the “repeat after me” rule: Encourage your talent to repeat part of your question to start their answer.
Introduction: My name is Nicola Considine CPA, I am a determined, witty, powerful, brainy, open, smiling, proud person who loves writing and wants to share my knowledge and understanding with you.
